The greatest variety to hunt on earth
The Eastern Cape is synonymous with great, hard earned hunting. Home to what is often regarded as the greatest plains game hunt on earth – the pursuit of Eastern Cape Kudu, this destination is where hunters go looking for adventure and diversity in their safari experience. Every morning may begin with a game plan for the days target species, but due to the vast expanses of land we hunt here, a glassing session on a hill side looking for Kudu sunning themselves in the morning, may very well reveal any number of other species to target. Many an adaptable hunter has had their “take what Africa gives you” attitude rewarded to full effect here and taken superb animals whether they are the specific target for the day or not.
Opportunistic hunting aside, the Eastern Cape also offers some extremely specific hunts. Blue Duiker, Bushpig, Caracal over hounds and Vaal Rhebuck are but a few of the more sought after species that test a patient hunter. Add to this that the Eastern Cape is home to 6 of the Tiny 10 species and the returning African hunter can look forward to dedicating many a safari day searching for these endemic and iconic species. Finally, few visitors to this rich habitat have left without dedicating some time to hunting the Spiral Horns – Nyala, Cape Bushbuck, Cape Eland and Cape Kudu. The “slam” of all 4 never come easy.

Base camp
Home base for hunting the Eastern Cape with Maartens Safaris is the Clifton Ranch, 40 miles north of the town of Grahamstown. This hunting paradise has been restored to its current glory from a history of being used as an overgrazed goat ranch. Through diligent, careful restoration and eyes fixed on what this Ranch could become, we are now proud to share it with you. The home base is over 5000 acres from which we have access to hunt surrounding areas. Should Caracal over hounds, Blue Duiker and Oribi also be on your safari list we will travel from here to our Indigenous Coastal Forest area.
Base camp accommodation is stylish and homely, consisting of 2 eloquent and modern rooms hosting 4 hunters. With all the amenities you need including Wifi, large hot water showers, King size or two 3/4 beds, indoor and outdoor cooking and dining and a comfy indoor annex with indoor fireplace for colder evenings you will not be left wanting during your Eastern Cape hunt.
