The greatest variety to hunt on earth

The Eastern Cape is synonymous with great, hard earned hunting. Home to what is often regarded as the greatest plains game hunt on earth – the pursuit of Eastern Cape Kudu, this destination is where hunters go looking for adventure and diversity in their safari experience. Every morning may begin with a game plan for the days target species, but due to the vast expanses of land we hunt here, a glassing session on a hill side looking for Kudu sunning themselves in the morning, may very well reveal any number of other species to target. Many an adaptable hunter has had their “take what Africa gives you” attitude rewarded to full effect here and taken superb animals whether they are the specific target for the day or not.

Many dedicate their time in the Eastern Cape to hunt the Spiral Horns – Nyala, Cape Bushbuck, Cape Eland and Cape Kudu. The “slam” of all 4 never come easy.

Home base for classic Eastern Cape Karoo hunting starts from the banks of the Tarka river. Like all of our accommodations – this is “just right” for a safari. All your needs are taken care of and you can get on with the hunt. Up to 10 hunters can be taken for and there are over 20 species to pursue. The Karoo is a diverse landscape with opportunities just over the next hill.

Ed Griffin, a good friend of Maartens Safaris, embraced the mindset of “take what Africa gives you” and enjoyed the huge variety of species offered in the Eastern Cape. With his wife by his side he hunted 8 different species, notably a 50″ free roaming Eastern Cape Kudu being one of them.
